![]() The only difference from regular ages is that Atrus designed them exactly to be prisons, that is, as deserted places were an evildoer would find none to hurt. However, for the sake of creating Myst IV and with it the "ages" of Sirrus and Achenar, prison books were transformed in prison ages: they no longer leave you stucked into the void, but they simply put you into an age where they are no linking books to go back. That's the same thing that can happen to the Stranger if you use the prison book in the rebel age (they burn the book, leaving you stranded into the darkness forever). Destroying the book would cause Gehn to be trapped forever with no possibility of rescue. As far as Riven is involved, Gehn is still trapped in the prison book exactly like Sirrus and Achenar were trapped in their prison books in Myst.
